Greens Keep Growing in Goring! Historic Second Seat to Green Councillor in Worthing

Green Councillors Claire Hunt and Ian DaveyGreens Win their Second Election in Goring in as Many Years

Local Green campaigner Ian Davey has been elected to Worthing Borough Council for Goring in the May elections. This marks the first time in Worthing’s history that there have been two Greens on the Borough Council. Claire Hunt was elected for Goring last year.

The Green Wave by the numbers: From a vote-share of just 9.5% in 2021, the Greens received more than 55% of the vote in the 2024 elections, growing even from their 50.5% share in 2023. Davey received 1696 votes, the highest vote of any candidate across Worthing in these elections and with the highest turnout of any ward

Cllr Davey has lived in Sussex all his adult life and in Worthing for the last 8 years. He is married with two grown children and recently celebrated the arrival of his first grandchild. He has spent the last 25 years working in the community & voluntary sector, alongside environmental campaigning, sustainable transport and local politics, with an 8 year spell as an elected councillor in Sussex.

Cllr Davey says: ‘I am incredibly grateful to the people of Goring for putting their faith in me to be their Worthing BC councillor. The high vote is testament to the hard work put in by Cllr Claire Hunt over the last year. We ran a clean and honest campaign, and we pledge to continue to always tell the truth. People deserve no less. Together Claire and I will work hard to protect Goring's precious green spaces and to make Goring Greener, fairer and safer for all.’

Heading into the General Election, the Greens have won a record number of seats across the country: 812 on 174 councils. This was a gain of 74 seats for the Greens; Labour and the Lib Dems also grew their seats across the country, while the Conservatives lost 474 seats.
